Euan Carruthers, Director, RYA Principal, Chief Instructor

Euan has over 20 years of teaching experience and has taught in a wide variety of countries including Australia, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Tenerife, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. Since late 2011 he has been back in the UK teaching all levels of  RYA training from Start Yachting to Advanced Powerboat to Yachtmaster Offshore. When he is not out teaching on the water, he can be found teaching shorebased navigation and radio courses to all levels of students from those just starting to those building up to their RYA Yachtmaster Exam. Euan has a calm and relaxed teaching manner which readily builds confidence in his students. Euan also runs all the instructor training, delivering regular training at our base in Rhu.

Yasmin Haig, Operations Director

Yasmin joined us in February 2023 as Operations Manager, responsible for the running of our office, liaising with the staff as to the courses they are teaching, course bookings and paperwork, and marketing. She will be most people’s first point of contact.

She grew up on the Isle of Bute and started sailing dinghies at a young age. She then progressed to sailing bigger boats through sail training opportunities with Maybe Sailing and Ocean Youth Trust Scotland before working full time with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland as a 2nd mate gaining her Yachtmaster Coastal commercially endorsed. During the pandemic she ventured into office based jobs in the marine sector learning valuable administration skills. Yasmin enjoys getting onto the water any chance she gets.

Abbie McKee, Administritive Assistant

Abbie officially became a part of our team in January 2024, taking on the crucial role of Administrative Assistant. Her responsibilities span a variety of tasks essential to the smooth operation of the company. These include ensuring pre-course information is promptly sent to candidates, replying to incoming inquires and readying the equipment in the classrooms for each course among other duties vital to our daily functions. 

Abbie grew up in the seaside town of Inveraray where she took an interest in water sport activities from kayaking and canoeing to paddleboarding and rib experiences. She sees this job as an opportunity to broaden her understanding but also to immerse herself in new experiences, both on the shore and out on the water.

Colin Faulds, RYA Instructor/Skipper

Colin grew up on the water spending his early years fishing, power boating and sailing at every opportunity. His love of the sea has led to him spending his working life on the water. Initially in the Merchant Navy where he had the opportunity to travel extensively whilst learning the art of navigation and seamanship, followed by over 32 years of Marine Policing with the Ministry of Defence Police.

 He has been instructing a wide range of RYA courses since 2005, and has experience as both Centre Principal and Chief Instructor in addition to being an appointed RYA Yachtmaster Examiner. Colin has a calm and relaxed teaching style and aims to ensure students gain both confidence and experience whilst enjoying their time onboard or in the classroom. Andy Greer, RYA Instructor/Skipper

Andy has been involved with the water as far back as he can recall. He started his working career in the commercial sector managing and skippering crew transfer vessels, safety boats and line handlers. More recently, after a change of scenery; he joined MOD Police Marine Unit at Faslane/Coulport before switching back to freelance instructing and skippering

Rob Mutlow, RYA Instructor/Skipper

Rob has been instructing and coaching for the last 32 years in many countries including Australia, Europe and the UK. During that time he has held positions of Centre Principal and Chief Instructor in a number of centres. He specialises in Yachtmaster preparation, theoretical and practical, and was appointed as an RYA Examiner in 2008 and Cruising Instructor trainer in 2017.

As a Cruising Instructor Trainer, Rob works with potential instructors and passes on his wealth of knowledge in the watersports industry in both Motor Cruising and Yachting. He is also a very experienced dinghy instructor and windsurfing instructor. His current qualifications include:

Scott Campbell, MCA Instructor

Scott Campbell is a Marine Warranty Surveyor with an Unlimited Chief Mate qualification, Master 500GT qualification, and a full Dynamic Positioning Officer's qualification. Scott began his career at sea in Aberdeen University's Royal Naval Unit in 2003, serving on HMS Archer while studying for his BSc in Marine Resource Management. Scott then worked as an assistant technician performing AIS and Radar surveys for marine risk analysis firm Anatec, after graduation. He then went on to complete a cadetship in the Merchant Navy, serving from cadet up to second officer, with Regent Seven Seas Cruises. After a short time doing supply and stand-by work in the Middle East, Scott then worked on supply vessels and geotechnical drilling for Gulfmark Offshore in the Northern North Sea, and Eastern Mediterranean. He served with Gulfmark for four years, where he rose to chief mate and SDPO. He then worked as a Navigation Specialist for the UKHO for 18 months, before becoming a Technical Advisor for Witherby Publishing Group Ltd. Scott spent 5 years with Witherbys, rising to Head of Navigation Publications after shadowing and working with marine pilots in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Denmark, the Panama Canal, and the English Channel. After gaining his Master 500GT qualification Scott spent 2 years as Master on HSC-OSC CTVs with ECDIS, and three trips as Master on a DP2 construction vessel fitted with ECDIS, before joining You and Sea Ltd.


Matt French, MCA Instructor 

Matt’s maritime journey began in 2010 when he joined the Royal Navy as a Warfare Officer. He served in the RN for 12 years, working his way up from Office of the Watch all the way to Commanding Officer. He left the RN in 2022 to become a Kings Harbour Master Pilot at HM Naval Base Clyde, a role which he really enjoys and which was his dream from starting his career at sea. Matt has worked as an instructor in the Royal Navy teaching navigation, seamanship and ship handling. More recently he has started working as a Civilian instructor teaching both ECDIS and Stability courses. In his spare time Matt enjoys watching rugby, going exploring with his family and going sailing.

Paul Mills, Instructor/Skipper

Paul first started sailing at 13, and enjoyed dinghies, kayak, and windsurfing instructing. During college and beyond, Paul spent 4 years working for Sunsail, chiefly in the Solent and Greece. This was followed by setting up his own sailing school in Menorca and then a spot of traditional boat sailing. His professional career involved teaching & training – and running a therapeutic foster care agency.  Paul has sailed about 40,000 miles between Portugal and Scotland and loves exploring beautiful coastlines, often working with groups of teenagers on his own 40′ charter boat. He currently skippers a large commercial rib operating on the Clyde. In his free time, Paul loves spending time with his boys in the outdoors and undertaking off-road expeditions to remote corners of the globe.

Thom Bateman, Instructor/Skipper

Sailing started in a GP 14 dinghy and quickly moved to various lasers at Strathclyde Park. Royal Gourock YC followed and into racing Pipers. The cruising bug started on the Clyde and the West of Scotland. A weekend trip to Cherbourg was followed by a trip across Biscay, then Iceland. Powerboats were always about but then became more interesting and well .. motorboats had to follow! "The grand thing about boating in all its forms is that you never stop learning."

Max Carruthers, Director & Boat Maintenance Guru

Max is a Director of You & Sea and provides strategic and financial advice. He oversees the maintenance of all the boats and is hands-on more often than not! Max is also heavily involved in You & Sea’s film work, particularly organising the technical aspects of marine filming. He has been involved with boats and the sea since he was a teenager, starting with sailing dinghies and progressing to yachts and  motor boats.
