About the Course

The Boatmaster Level 3 Apprenticeship offers a comprehensive training program for individuals aspiring to become skilled boatmasters. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, along with industry qualifications, ensures that apprentices are well-prepared for the challenges of navigating waterways in the UK.

The structured approach of the apprenticeship, with training sessions spread over 24 months and covering various aspects of inland and limited distance to sea navigation, allows apprentices to gradually build their expertise. The incorporation of nationally recognized industry qualifications, STCW Basic Training, and practical boat handling courses, along with the SQA Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies, provides a solid foundation for aspiring boatmasters.

Additionally, the preparation for obtaining a Boat Master license from the Maritime Coastguard Agency ensures that apprentices meet the legal requirements for operating vessels. The inclusion of commercial skippers' license training for vessels up to 20 miles to sea further expands career opportunities for apprentices in the maritime industry.

Flexibility in scheduling, taking into account factors like weather conditions and employer work schedules, demonstrates a practical approach to training that prepares apprentices for real-world challenges they may encounter in their future careers. Overall, this apprenticeship program offers a thorough and well-rounded training experience for individuals pursuing a career as boatmasters.
