RYA Sea Survival

We hope you never need to use the skills gained on this course, but strongly believe that if the worst ever happens and your and your crew’s lives depended on it, this training will prove invaluable and will help to preserve life.

If you had to abandon your vessel, would you know what to do? The RYA Sea Survival training course assumes the worst-case scenario, that you have to abandon your yacht or ship, and prepares you for it.

This day of training covers essential practical sea survival skills and is a requirement for anyone seeking their RYA Commercial Endorsement

  • The emphasis of the course is life-rafts and the day includes a two-hour practical session in the pool, covering,:

    • how to inflate the life raft

    • how to climb into the life raft

    • how to upright the raft

    • how to survive in a life-raft

    The course also covers a wide range of other survival issues:

    • helicopter rescue

    • immersion in cold water

    • life jackets

    • an outdoor practical session firing a live flare.

    • RYA Sea Survival Course Book, 

    • Use of our classroom, and training equipment, 

    • Use of lifejacket & wet weather gear for the practical session, 

    • Light refreshments throughout the course, 

    • Hire fee for the swimming pool

    • Swimwear and towel.

    • Wet Weather gear and Lifejacket (if they are clean)
